tina

so clever M. Love the title. Do you spend weeks thinking about how to frame the crusade? Looking forward to seeing all the gorgeousness. Crusaders are so innovative......

Flo

oooh, fun! I used to love doing brass rubbings when I was a kiddo.

there is actually a brass rubbing centre at Longleat House (where the wonderful Lord Bath lives - worth googling if you like English eccentrics, and he's a mean painter too...), and I was planning on taking a visit there with the kids soon. I might try and fit it into this month :)

Chris

'Irresistable date' hehe!

Clare

I loved this! here are my first attempts, just the first of many.

The last thing I should be doing right now is playing on the 'puter (looking over shoulder to see who might catch me, lol), but I just couldn't RESIST stopping in to see what you cooked up next! Aha!

I also went and DROOLED over the last Indie flick, LOVED IT!

Ok, willponder this...

and TRY to get back here in REASONABLE time.

gotta go, Monica :)

Hmmm... this month looks interesting, all the more reason to go dig out some space on the work table. (I've been cleaning and it'ss piled sky high with stuff!) I'm just here to report another blog post showing how I'm incorporating past Crusades into my work. http://www.mydapperdog.com/blog/2008/06/tempus-fugit.html Now on to the Irresistible Rubbings! ;-)) HUGS!

Lay Hoon

This challenge really interesting.
This is mine first try.

Thanks for looking

Annapurna

I didn't get as good impressions as your example here. Will try more after reading the instructions line by line.

Here is something I created.

Hi, MIchelle, here's my first insane flurry of experiments. I LOVED doing this as a kid and did many grave rubbings in my teen years, given all the Revolutionary War cemeteries here in the Northeast. I'm bummed that the previous Crusade didn't work out for me. My first attempt using my scrap tissue paper fell apart and before I could figure out how to fix it, I had to go take care of my mother who was having a cornea transplant. I'm home now and couldn't let a challenge this juicy slip by me. So count me in at http://commutersjournal.blogspot.com.

Speaking of healing family members, how is Shannon?

patty van dorin

Thanks for such an inspiring Crusade and easy to follow instructions. I had forgotten how much fun rubbing were.
Here is mine
http://ramblingrose.typepad.com/

susan w

Okay - now I'm inspired (esp. by Patty & Inge's pages). The mention of woodblocks led me to look for this lovely paper doll given to me by my paper doll collecting mom. I think I'll use it to make her a birthday card.

susan w

and... another one. Remember all those masks from our stencils? They are fun to rub (and then help out with some PS brush work inspired by Patty Van Dorin.

susan w

and...yet one more. No, really, I AM getting to work now.

really.

Rosie

You kept me up again because I became enthused and got all 'experimental' (again!), but it was fun!! Thanks for writing great "How-tos"... *grins*

susan w

I rewarded myself for my yardwork by adding one more post. The thing about doing it on Flickr is that my posts can never end.... oh dear, just too much fun. I am seeing rubbable texture everywhere now.

Flo

as ever, had a ball playing along - thanks for the monthly inspiration :)

What a great crusade! I've always liked rubbings, but have never painted over them. Thanks for the idea. Here's my first attempt http://on-the-banks-of-bay-creek.blogspot.com/2008/06/crusade-no-21-irresistible.html , I'm sure there will be more.

inge Bekaert

Hello Michele,

just another post with a small example of a waxrubbing...
http://web.mac.com/pinkepinke/pinkepinke/Blog/Artikelen/2008/6/8_crusade_n°_21_%3A_wax_rubbings_and_making_cards....html

Because of the crusade I let my children in school draw with very colorful oilpastels ( the ones that can hold waxcrayons) and with another child I painted over the waxdrawing by letting him feel through acrylpaint with his hands, so he could experience his hands.

When it was dry I wiped it with a wet cloth. I really like the result ( but I always love the scribbles children make...)
It's not a waxrubbing, but the crusade got me inspired.... (normally I paint over waxcrayons with ecoline and this gives a nice result, but with acrylic paint it's different).
So thanks for the inspiration !

greetings
Inge

PS : enjoy the cooling pool... The weather is good here, but absolutely not so hot like at yours !!!

Casey

How fun to play with my kid's crayons! Here's my first attempt, but I plan on experimenting more:

Hi Michelle!
I have been wanting to join your Crusade for a while now and the crayons did me in. My link is www.pinkcrayonstudio.blogspot.com.
it was great fun...thanks!

Tricia

Hi Michele,
I saw this on stitchin fingers, had to take a look, I've been doing what you speak of for quite a few years, I used to use it as a great technique in the class room when I had a particularly difficult class, the children would all get stuck in and peace would prevail, lol.
Just to say it is a lovely way of working, I agree, it is very similar to printing after all. The definition of printing is the transfer of one surface to another, so that's what frottage is.

I also find it very useful if you are making a printing block, you can try out the surface to see if it does what you expect it to.

I used to go to decorating shops and ask them to keep all their old wallpaper books for me. Very useful I can tell you in more ways than one. the textured ones I cut up and put stiff card on the back so the children would know not to glue them to their work, lol. The non textured ones were great for collage work.

It's so nice to meet someone who makes their own materials and ideas too, so many creative people have become so dependant on kits etc.. that prescribe what to do and they are not able to use their own creativity to the full.

I never had access to many art things when I was young so I would scavenge, glad I did really, what about you?

Well, sorry I have rambled enough, but it's so great to see that someone else is full of great ideas. thanks for sharing it Michelle. Regards Tricia

Nicki

Michelle - great work and wonderful tutorial! I have managed, after perusing some other's work, to actually put some art up on my site that is wax resist.

Off to check out more crusaders! - Nicki

Dawn

These resists and rubbings are more habit forming than the eraser stamps. I put up another post about my second go-round with them. http://on-the-banks-of-bay-creek.blogspot.com/2008/06/more-wax-resist.html

When I first saw the crusade, I wanted to show my 4-year-old granddaughter how to do it. We didn't get to paint them yesterday, but had the best time looking for textures to rub. I couldn't believe how cute little girl's shoe soles are. I think this will be a fun way to record her shoes as she grows out of them. I also did a squiggle drawing with textures in the spaces and around the outside as well. I'll post when I get that on my blog. Her bedroom was a veritible treasure trove for this crusade.

Lay Hoon

My 2nd experiment
http://mescrap.blogspot.com/2008/06/crusade-21-irresistible_13.html

Thanks for looking at.

Hope to have a not too hot day !!

Becci

Hello everyone! I was happy to take part in the Crusade #21! I really had a fun time doing this and will be adding this forgotten texture technique more often to my little projects!

Have a great hair day! Becci

Another great challenge Michelle!!
i tried using some hand made lace as my textured element and I am quite pleased with the result. Definately another technique to add to our bag of tricks! It also brought back memories of prowling around old graveyards on Cape Cod trying to find the oldest stones with some cool textures- pruitans weren't much into fun designs tho!!
Htanks again!

Kathryn

Hi Michelle and fellow crusaders,

I've been visiting and watching and couldn't *RESIST* this challenge. Take a peek: http://web.mac.com/kathrynantyr

and...again...this one was inspired by the colors in the movie The Darjeeling Express. This and another movie The Fall are decadent sensory excursions, the colors, the colors! Oh my eyes!! wowie

rubbings made over Victorian scrapbook covers & cathedral lace (which always makes me think of Michelle Ward)

Kathryn

Hi Michelle,
I took the scan of the rubbing sampler and created a digital journal page. Thanks again for this fun technique. To see what I did with the rubbings go to:

My Crusade 21 is on my blog today
http://zquilts.blopgspot.com

I have to agree. These crusades allow my to regain a sense of play that had been missing for far too long. Thank you so much Michelle for all of this fun and inspiration!

Marie

OOPS - that should have been
http://zquilts.blogspot.com

hedwig

I haven't put my product to use yet, but I had fun!

http://ladylulu.wordpress.com/2008/06/18/crusade-no-21/

Cory

Thank you for the fun challenge...

I made a collage with the rubbings you can see it on http://art-with-moxie.blogspot.com/ and, I wrote a mini tutorial on the frottage collage process. you will find it on http://createwithmoxie.blogspot.com/

Laura

It's me again. I used the wax resist bit - but not the relief - on a page in my altered book project.
http://ladylulu.wordpress.com/2008/06/19/why-must-size-matter/

BTW thanks for the note about xeroxing!

Maralena

I have been so busy with art commitments that I have not even had the chance to begin this challenge yet... but WILL this weekend... and will post when I do.
HOWEVER - I have been very busy using the rubberstamps I made a couple of challenges back - and posted those results here:

http://mcdc3s.blogspot.com/2008/06/traveling-sketchbook-update.html

I have really enjoyed working with them, and the stencils... and I know this challenge will be just as much fun.

jodi barone

Michelle,
Thanks for another challenge;they are all irresistable! Here is mine:

http://wildvines.blogspot.com/2008/06/therein-lies.html

Last month was the first month I missed since beginning with the crusades many moons ago and I felt the absence of not participating like the absence of an old friend.

jodi

Rosie

I'm so pleased I did this Michelle! I've just made a really quick thank you card for a client using one of my backgrounds and it's really neat how the resist shows through the stamped image's blank parts. Way cool!!

http://alteredartandstuff.wordpress.com/2008/06/20/a-little-thank-you/

Rosie

Yay!! It's me again! I made something very similar with spaghettis today at our local Food Festival - have a peek if you get time! ;-]

I had fun with doing some rubbings of my granddaughter's shoe soles and some of her flocked stickers. I liked what I came up with and decided not to paint over it this time. Now I want to try some more and see what they look like painted. Everywhere I look I see textures ready to rub and resist.

Kathryn

Hi Michelle,
More digital play this morning with my rubbings! http://web.mac.com/kathrynantyr/Site/Kathryns_Blog/Entries/2008/6/22_ATC_-_glub...glub.html

Thanks again for this great idea! I'm loving it.
Kathryn

JeriAnn

Hi, Michelle --
Well, I went wild again with the results of another Crusade. See what I did with just some of the resist papers at http://commutersjournal.blogspot.com. Thanks for the fresh inspiration!
