No, this isn't a lecture about leaving comments, it's a prompt to get you to think about "journaling", the writing you add to a page. I admit I don't often write on my pages, but I do think it is important - even if you only capture one thought. Personally, I do not think that Visual Journaling is about writing, it's about the creative art process. However, words play an important role in that process. So how do you add them? This month I thought we could share how we do it.
You can use WORDS, or USE words. Do you see the difference?
Don't know what to write about? You underestimate yourself.
Here's a quick look at some of the "journaling" on my pages. You can write, type, stamp...use cut out words, transferred words...it's endless!
Don't want your words to be the main attraction? Try Stealth Journaling...
Many of you are already doing great things with words on your pages. Go ahead and revisit something you've shown, or make new pages, and show us your favorite ways to "journal". There are no rules, there is no right or wrong method. We learn so much from each other - this is a great community of creatives. The only thing I ask if you play in this crusade is that you make a new post for No. 30, and explain your process. Then come and leave a comment here and I will add you to the link list. Come back often during the month so you can click on the new links to see what others are sharing. Be sure to leave your words of encouragement!

Michelle-
Great crusade idea! I have the most trouble with writing. I will write something down and then rip it out and throw it away....I have none of my written journals left from high school, only a few poems.
Also, LOVE the walls page. I am trying so hard to come up with original ideas but am blown away by yours.
Until later,
Judy

My first thought was "Aargh!", but this is actually good timing because I just made several ATC backgrounds that I thought could use some words. I also have a journal that I've been building backgrounds in, but the words I have meant to record have been neglected.
Thanks for all your examples.

I was just looking for something to do today! So I did a journal page about the topic that I was marvelling at just then - the number of stamps I own!
Here it is :

Hi Michelle, I know I really don't end up doing your crusades though I gawk each month *grins*
I would love to use more handwriting in my art or art journaling, but my writing is horrible! I hate it. Most women have such nice writing...yours is great. Is it your architecture background? Or does it come natural?
I guess I just need to embrace just how bad my writing is LOL. Honestly other than signing my name I can't write in cursive. I print everything.
Have a great weekend!

OH Wicked Woman - the walls pages are outstanding. Received my "writing on the walls" stamps from you yesterday. I'm ready to get started this weekend on this challenge and will of course have to use my "off the" walls notebook. So COOL! I have a few other pages in the workshop painted page journal we did last May that I can also include. Love this! xoxo

I have used a load of words that are important to me on my secret garden canvas page. I have missed a couple of challenges so it was nice to join in again.

YES! The cat's got MY tongue!!! At least for the time being... No blogposts, not many visits or comments on great Crusader's blogs... But spring has just arrived, and I nurse a desire to journal more, so maybe the time has come. we'll see... (getting up my courage here!)

I don't usually write a lot in my journal. It freaks me out a bit, actually. But I've been adding a little more lately. Here's my entry -

I´m not writing in my own handwriting very often, but I´ve tried it here in a half hidden way to support the privateness of my "Define Yourself" pages. Still have to try writing around shapes - I love that when I see it elsewhere! Thanks for the great challenge, my pages are here:

This is a fun one! I don't very often write in my art journals, so when I attempted this, I tried a lot of styles and don't have one 'identifiable' one! Because I am a
"serial backgrounder" I have lots of pages ready to add writing. My URL http://redtape.typepad.com/

Hey Michelle,
Finally....I'm posting to the team. I'm not sure I like the journaling thing....but I tried. I'm going to keep trying. I did enjoy the creating....was very apprehensive about putting words to paper. Maybe next time will be easier.

Michelle, your challenges just get more and more fun! Or maybe I say that cause I LOVE LETTERING! Even if it's not my personal forte, I love to see what other people can do (I resort to rubber stamps a LOT).
I made up some pages in my journal...take a peek!

Alright, I feel like the prodigal daughter... been quite some time since I've been here... I've missed the crusade! I will try to get back into the swing of things and participate again. (some of the challenges I've missed seem too good to pass up so I may also go back and do few for fun). This looks to be a good one for me to spring back into, as I like to use words in/with my art. Your samples are SOOO inspiring!

I realize this is about using your writing in your art journal. I do, really. But the Crusade inspired what I did in my son's scrapbook page instead:

I think it's a little more adventurous than previous work I've done, so it makes me happy.

Been on the road the last couple weeks so have't had much time to play. I usually write more than "make art" so here's a very sparse page for me. I love to use ransom letters as part of my journaling.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/25838238@N07/3462707721/
And here's a page that's more typical of my journaling.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/25838238@N07/3256456522/in/set-72157614774949267/
I want to play around with this some more especially hiding some of the journaling.
Thanks for the great ideas yet again Michelle!

Hi Michelle,
Today I finally jumped into this month's prompt of using words. It is not in journaling though, but by a little haiku on a digital collage I made this week. Hope it qualifies!! In the meantime I keep on working on more and hope to post it in time, I have really been thinking too much on this and want to thank you for this prompt. It really is not that difficult to get the words out of your head and onto your work. Thank you!
