img: can you see me now?
I grew up in Minnesota where snow days like this were not uncommon. We made the most of it - sledding, skating and skiing. We also had snowmobiles. I remember that we would have a snowfence - temporarily installed along the driveway to prevent snow from drifting across. We would wrap our feet in Wonder Bread bags before inserting in our boots, then spend hours outside. Our wrists would be chapped from where the wet snow met our tender skin. We lived in a court, and all the snow from the road would be piled in the middle of the circle in what felt like a huge snow mountain. Who would be king of the hill? After Minnesota I lived in Boston, then Chicago, Traverse City (MI), and now here (NJ). Snow has been part of all my winters. In 46 years I never heard this phrase: It's a French Toast Day. Graham mentioned it last snow storm (a few days ago). Do you know this one?
Most people freak at the prospect of being snowed in when a storm is on the way so they rush to the stores to gather up supplies. The first to get emptied off the shelves - milk, bread, and eggs. French Toast! *grin*
No school AGAIN today. Soon we will dig out...it's getting harder and harder to clear the snow as we have to lift it higher and higher. But oh boy! It is sure pretty!
I will check on my syrup reserves....might have to whip up some FT before I put on my boots.

I have never heard "French Toast" day - love it. I'm staying home and playing - did not have it as bad as you all but your snows keep missing up and piling up on you. We had heavy wet snow anywhere from 8-10 inches. I just take annual leave! Whoop Whoop. I am growing a rust garden today. : )

Love the picture...
I can remember having my legs chapped to bleeding from the fake fur on the top of my rubber snow boots--we were not allowed to wear pants to school unless it was colder than 5 below, and then only under our skirts.
Snow days were few and far between, in northern MN you were expected to tough it out. I do remember one snow day when we got 30" overnight--I still managed to get downtown to buy tickets to the citywide high-school basketball tournament. The things we did when we were young...

Is that YOU over there?
Yikes. This is getting CRAZY.
Talked to my DC Pal last night and she had been part of a roving band of do-gooders digging people out of the snowdrifts there too.
Here's to French Toast and white-outs from INSIDE a cozy house.
Sending Love from Colorado and up to 60 degrees today. WHAT???!!!!!.....

I know you will think that I am crazy, but I wish it was a French Toast day! I need a day off! We are getting 1 to 2 inches and people are complaining.

French Toast Day.. first I've heard of it, but love it. Even in Milwaukee where one would assume we'd have snow day after snow day, they were few and far between. BUT.. I can most definitely relate to the bread bags in my boots... my snowmobile boots to be exact. They were the big clod-hoppers, felt lining that always got soaked, feet were always cold and yes, wrists frozen as well. We'd also get "soakers" if we were playing on the ice that formed on the creek in the backyard...if it wasn't completely frozen, in we'd go and the bread bags just wouldn't cut it for keeping the water out... what great memories you've stirred up for me this morning!
Snowing here (Milwaukee & Madison) this morning... but the sun's out now so hopefully the 3-4" that we accumulated will be yesterday's news in a matter of hours.

O I envy you ! And I love the 'french toast day'. I always feel so happy on snowdays, and we don't get a lot of those overhere. And I can't even say out loud that I am happy, because when we do have a snowday people are complaining so much ! So I just enjoy myself in silence ;-) And shuffling snow with a smile on my face LOL

Please add some snow photos. I am an Aussie too but from Sydney and the temperature here has been nearly 40 C and I would love to see some great snow pictures. How high is it?
